I, Robot

In the near future, technology and robots are a trusted part of everyday life. In “I, ROBOT”, that trust is broken and one man, alone against the system, sees it coming. The film employs spectacular visual effects innovations beyond any ever put on screen, to bring a world of robots to life. The film is directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) and is set in a world created by famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in his short story collection “I, ROBOT“.
How can the movie suck with a director like that?

The movie only ties into a mere one page of Issac Asimov's book. There is not one mention of robots revolting, nor is there any mention of that one man that sees it coming. It may be a play off the Robotics director, but it's a long shot. I'll bet the visual effects are the greatest, but that's the only reason they made this movie. It was not made to give anything to Issac Asimov, as anyone who has read his book can attest to.

It may be set in the world Asimov created, but it's some alternate reality universe where everyone may or may not be on drugs.

I recommend the book before the movie.

But the director directed Dark City and The Crow. He could turn crap into art.

Well the film has one major flaw that nobody can fix.... the movie is a Will Smith summer movie. That automaticly spells box office failure.

Regardless of the movie being true to the book it was based on, however loosely, I'm sure the movie will be entertaining. After all, isn't that a movie's purpose? I know it used to be...

If you want an art flick, watch Waking Life or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

If you really want to talk about destroying something that once was - look at the Stepford Wives, another movie based off a book. Unlike the 2004 release, the original covered the feminist rights movement - it was not a comedy.

Take from I, Robot what you will once you've watched it, but don't call it a failure before having done so.

It's going to be a failure. Why? First off as I stated, it has Will Smith in it. He hasn't made a movie with substance since Six Degrees of Seperation. Why he may be in some notable movies since then like MIB, ID4, and Bad Boys, he always playing the same charactor, the tall loud mouthed black guy that screams when something happens to him. Should I even bring up Wild Wild West? Secondly it's being mid july. While it maybe the second month in summer, it's still pretty damn late in the summer season. Movie companies do this knowing that a majority of the kids are on summer vacation and have already seen all the movies worth seeing, so the kiddies will be willing to see someting that is less. Third off, the previews offer very little insight in the Robot mind, all we know is that they are going nuts and there's a whole bunch of action sequences. As I said before Will Smith + Summer movie = box office ass!
